Logic
Logic is the science of reasoning and thought. This stage covers seventh through eighth grades. Junior high students are inquisitive, so we develop their ability to reason and discern truth in this stage.
What to Expect at the Logic Stage
Critical Thinking
Logic emphasizes understanding and analytical thinking, focusing on the why and how of each subject. The study of formal logic (fallacies and syllogisms) comes at this level, when teenagers question the status quo. It is here that the art of debate begins to emerge and students begin to recognise the difference between sound arguments and faulty ones.
Beyond Fact Memorization
In the Logic stage, students learn how facts relate to one another. Here the student begins to understand the information learned, reasons, and asks logical questions. It is crucial that the child begins to learn to analyze and organize facts in light of the other information he/she has already learned.
Writing
Teaching students to not just be a good writer – but a great one – is a key focus of the Logic stage. We encourage them to think logically and to translate those logical thinking skills onto the page.
